Who invented Stainless Steel? 25th of October at the works

We are pleased to announce that our final speaker this year is Dr Peter Morgan who with Dr David Dulieu has compiled fascinating review of the development of Stainless Steel.

Dr Morgan’s presentation will take place at Portland Works on Wednesday 25th October from 7pm to 9pm, with a break for refreshments.  He will take us back to the early days of experimentation involving such figures as Michael Faraday and his contemporaries in other parts of world.  He will focus on the early 20th century and explain Harry Brearley’s contribution as the “father of stainless steel” in the UK.

This will be a fitting end to our 2023 lecture season as it is the 10th anniversary of the community buy-out of Portland Works and the 110th anniversary of Harry Brearley’s discovery.

Tickets are £5.00 reduced to £2.50 for Friends of Portland Works members.

All proceeds go towards restoring and repairing Portland Works.
