Sheffield Assay Office – 250 years in the making , Wed 22 Feb 2023 at 19:00

Don’t miss this it’s a big year for the Sheffield Assay Office (250th Anniversary) and the Cutlers Company of Hallamshire (400th Anniversary) so come along and find out more.

We are delighted to announce that our first talk of the 2023 programme of lectures at Portland Works will be given by Emma Paragreen. Emma edits the Bradbury’s book of hallmarks and gives regular lectures on the work of Assay Offices. Her illustrated talk promises to be fascinating and informative as she takes us through 250 years of hallmarking history.

Emma is a great ambassador for both the Assay Office and Sheffield Museums. Emma holds a Professional Jeweller’s diploma, she is a Committee member of The Silver Society, a Director of the Association of Contemporary Jewellers, and a Freeman of the Goldsmith’s Company.

If you are interested in precious metals (who isn’t!?) this talk is not to be missed!

This is the first lecture of our 2023 season, an important year for the Assay Office as it is their 250th anniversary. It is also the 10th anniversary of the Portland Works Community purchase. Light refreshments will be provided in return for a voluntary donation. Please note that access is via a staircase with a bannister rail.

Our Makerspace at Portland Works accommodates 60 people, so make sure you order your tickets soon!
