Margaret studied at the Institute for Lifelong Learning at Sheffield University for a combined degree in geology, natural history and archaeology. Following her dissertation on gardens in late 18th c. Sheffield her further research led to the publication of “A History of Allotments in Sheffield 1700 to the present day.”
Margaret’s talk will cover how the history of Sheffield sustained 300 years of allotments from intense industrialisation, two world wars, the unemployment of the 1930’s, and the growth of the suburbs. You don’t have to be an allotment holder to enjoy what will be a fascinating talk!
