A Saucy Tale. The history of Henderson’s Relish
Food and Drink historian Mark Dawson will take us through the history of one of Sheffield’s most famous products
Mark is interested in the history of food and drink and has researched and written about it for over 20 years. He gives talks on the history of food and drink in Tudor and Stuart times. as well as talks on specific foods: English sheep’s milk cheese, Derbyshire oatcakes, Derbyshire puddings and Henderson’s Relish. He is secretary of the Leeds Symposium on Food History & Traditions.
In his talk, Mark will cover the unlikely story of the origins of Sheffield’s favourite sauce in a Victorian grocer’s shop and it’s ups and downs to present day production in a state-of-the-art factory.
